I don't think crime can essentially be stopped at all. I think it can be reduced significantly however. There are things that us as a society can do to prevent/reduce crime. Crime is a major issue and will always be motivated in some parts of society and this will never change. Poorer neighborhoods have an increased rate of crime so one of my proposed solutions will be to give poorer neighborhoods money. But who knows what will happen if we give these poorer, more desperate people money to make the neighborhoods more stable. What if they use this money to keep the crime going; buying drugs, guns, etc.
Giving money is the first best option. We could monitor how the people use the money whether it be for good use or bad use. If they use the money in a negative way to harm others or not attempting to improve their well being we could stop this program and try another option.
The second thing that would be done to reduce crime is instead of placing new business' in more suburban areas is to place them in the cities where more jobs are needed. Unemployment within the inner cities is extremely high compared to outside of the city so if we placed more job opportunities in the inner city the crime rate would be reduced. The reasoning for this is because if more people had jobs to put money in their mailbox instead of putting it in the hands of a drug dealer, a gun shop, or a liquor store.
The third way would be to legalize the use of marijuana. This may seem a bit of a stretch but I think it would work. Their are negatives and positives to this plan. The positives are that their would be many less people being sent to jail for the possession and sale of marijuana. If the US put a tax on marijuana it would become a multi-billion dollar industry. However it may be difficult to maintain who sells the marijuana which is why it would be difficult to use this option.
Personally I don't believe crime can be reduced until something major across the US occurs at one time that makes people realize they should stop committing crimes. This probably won't ever happen though, crime is a natural part of life for all societies, especially the US.

Yeah legalize marijuanna drugs can eliminate many crimes
ReplyDeletei completely agree with you .. in california marijuana is the no.1 selling cash producing crop and if it was legalized and a tax was put on it then the money would start flowing in.
ReplyDeleteyeah lets make weed legal.... then people will be busy smoking marijuanna because its legal and ok and they will have less of a desire to committ crimes. Good Job Travi:)
ReplyDeleteif they legalize marijuana then they should just legalize all drugs because this is america after all and people should be able to do what they want.
ReplyDeleteGood points were raised in all of this, I strongly agree Travis
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said for the most part. I feel the same way when it comes to giving out money to people because who knows what they will do with it. I agree with the marijuana part too because it makes people happy its worth a shot since other things dont work.
ReplyDeletei agree, your so smart
